CEDITRAA Special Issue on Soft Power and Digital Nation Branding
Egbert Amoncio, Sonia Campanini, Bertram Lang, Tom Simmert (eds.)(forthcoming 2024). De/Centering “Soft Power”: How Cultural Industries and Policies Interact in Digital Nation Branding (working title). Special Issue in: Research on the Sociology of Organisations. . Emerald Publishing.
Following up on the inspiring Asia Forum workshop held in Frankfurt in July 2023, four CEDITRAA researchers have joined forces to bring together key insights from these discussions in a critical reassessment of the “Soft Power” concept in the age of digital cultural production. The main focus of the special issue to be published with the Research in the Sociology of Organizations will be on the complex and internationally diverse relations between government actors and cultural industries in the process of what we describe as “digital nation branding”. The volume notably questions assumptions of a self-evident link between the international success of global cultural products and a country’s soft power, as well as vice versa between governmental cultural diplomacy efforts and the global appeal of a country’s cultural products.
