For the duration of June 2026, Schule des Sehens on JGU Campus Mainz will host the AMA:remix lab, where the three resident artists Steloolive (Ghana), Chilleaux (Nigeria), and Ambrose (Nigeria) work with materials from the African Music Archives. Drawing on their individual artistic approaches – spanning music-making, dance and choreography, and fashion – they translate sounds, movements, and objects into new artistic contexts, re-interpreting the archive as a living space of resonances. Through public workshops and performances, they invite JGU students, staff and other audiences to follow and shape this process together.
The AMA:remix lab is curated by Tom Simmert, Hauke Dorsch, Bakar Abdul-Rashid Jeduah and Tanja Labs; assisted by Til Kunzer, Miriam Nasr and Franziska Sonnen.
Financial support by Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space; Ernst-Wilhelm-Müller-Stiftung; Schule des Sehens and Georg Forster Forum.
