The Online International Summer School on “The Korean Wave” held by the Korean Studies department and organized by Prof. Yonson Ahn, Casandra Chistinean, and Alexandra Fuchs at Goethe University of Frankfurt from 21st to 25th July 2023, has been a resounding success. The event, which aimed to inspire students in Germany and beyond to explore the ever-evolving world of Hallyu, proved to be an interesting and enriching experience for all participants.
With its virtual format, the Summer School attracted a diverse and widespread audience, transcending geographical barriers. Academics and students from various countries connected through Zoom to present, discover and discuss the various facets of the Korean Wave. The lectures, delivered by nine distinguished experts in the field, offered deep insights into the industry, production, content, and reception of Korean popular culture on a global scale. Participants had the unique opportunity to engage in lively discussions with both the speakers and fellow attendees, fostering a sense of community and knowledge-sharing.
The Summer School’s central theme of transnationalism and the globalization of Hallyu resonated strongly with the participants.
